Brian previously was the Executive Creative Director at Media Arts Lab Shanghai, the bespoke agency for Apple, responsible for the greater China Market.
He has been brought on board to raise the creative bar to world class. Brian has worked hand in hand with the global leadership at Cupertino as well as the local clients, to craft impactful work that reflects and influences culture in China. The Shot on iPhone film, “Nian,” received unprecedented global attention including the 2021 Tribeca X Film Festival award for Best Short Film, Adweek’s Brand Storytelling Awards for Best in Show, and a feature in Variety Magazine. Oscar-winning filmmaker, Barry Jenkins tweeted “as beautiful a fable as these eyes ever did see.” Besides iPhone, Brian successfully helped to open up other creative opportunities by creating first ever iPad and Apple Watch originations out of China.
Prior to this role, he served as SVP, Executive Creative Director at Leo Burnett Chicago, where he was responsible for Kellogg’s US and Samsung, global. He rejuvenated the Kellogg’s business by injecting fresh digital thinking into the business and rebuilt the partnership with clients. He was heavily involved in strategic directions for both new and existing businesses. Subsequently, he led the team to win back the Special K and Eggo business. During that time, Brian also helped to create a global campaign for Samsung domestic appliances.
Before he was transferred to Chicago, Brian spent 5 years as Executive Creative Director at Leo Burnett Hong Kong, where he made his mark with famous work and creative recognition for the agency. One of the highlights is his “Hidden Sound” campaign for Zoo Records that won 4 Cannes Lions in different categories. It was one of the most awarded campaigns in Hong Kong's advertising history. He led over 80 creatives and was responsible for a wide range of clients including: Sony, 7 Eleven, AIA Insurance, P&G, McDonalds, BMW and more. Under Brian’s creative leadership, the Hong Kong office was ranked among the top 3 Hong Kong agencies for 3 consecutive years and took home the grand prize at the local 4A awards for the “Gift Box” campaign.
Brian is a frequently awarded and highly respected creative, both locally and internationally. His work is regularly recognized at the some of the most prestigious international advertising festivals, including Cannes, Clio, D&AD & One Show. He was ranked #2 creative director in Asia and has been invited to judge the Clio, CICLOPE, D&AD, New York Festivals, One Show and to speak at the AICP panel.
Born in Hong Kong and educated in North America (the US/Canada), Brian has worked across three continents (Asia, North America and Europe). He is fluent in English and Chinese. Having immersed himself in both Eastern and Western cultures, he instinctively sees things from a fresh perspective, and understands the importance of nurturing a culture of diversity in order to bring out the most insightful and intriguing work from his teams.
